A Master's Thesis at the University of Basra Examines the Text of the Visitation to the Holy Shrine: A Stylistic Study
The study, presented by student Fatima Rahma Taher in the Department of Arabic Language, aimed to provide a scientific stylistic analysis of the Visitation to the Holy Shrine. This was achieved by examining its linguistic and intrinsic structure, exploring its formal and implicit aspects, and seeking to understand its expressive intentions and uncover its historical and human dimensions.
Following the introduction and preface, the study comprised three main chapters. The first chapter addresses the stylistics of the phonetic and morphological structure, the second examines the stylistics of the syntactic construction, and the third addresses style and semantic structure. The study concludes with a summary of the most prominent findings and recommendations.
The study concluded that Imam al-Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance) is manifested in the text at a high linguistic and communicative level that serves the text's expressive purpose. This is evident in its ability to reach the recipient, influence their emotions, and simultaneously teach and instruct them. Furthermore, the stylistic analysis confirmed that the text's structure reinforces the idea of the Battle of Karbala as a deeply rooted issue in the human conscience, transcending time and historical boundaries. The study also revealed that the gradual arrangement of ideas in the text is clear and coherent, contributing to the construction of a comprehensive imaginative image that expresses the depth and emotional and rhetorical richness of the Husseini experience.
