The College of Education for Women at the University of Basrah organized a seminar on illegal migration and its negative impacts on both individuals and society.
The seminar aimed to introduce the concept of illegal migration, highlighting its psychological aspects, as well as its economic and social consequences. It also addressed psychosomatic disorders associated with illegal migration that affect both physical and mental health, such as loss of self-confidence and decreased motivation for work and learning. In addition, the seminar discussed the negative effects on society and the state, along with Iraqi laws related to illegal migration.
The seminar was delivered by Prof. Hanaa Abdul Nabi Kaban, Head of the Guidance Unit at the College; Prof. Wahaj Khudair Abbas from the College of Law; and Lecturer Dr. Hanan Ahmed Abdul Kareem from the Department of Geography and a member of the College’s Guidance Committee.
Finally, the seminar addressed physical and psychological risks, legal difficulties in destination countries, social challenges, and the economic impact on society. It concluded with recommendations emphasizing awareness and prevention, understanding the dimensions of this phenomenon, protecting youth from false promises made by smugglers, and guiding them toward safe pathways to reduce the risks of this issue in the future.
